Edit Windows Registry

Hi guys,
Assalamalaikum,

Today after a long time(~4 years) again I came accross with Microsoft Windows Registry.

What is System Registry?

The Windows Registry is a database(storage) that stores settings for Microsoft Windows operating systems. It contains information for hardware, Operating System(OS), most non-(OS) software, and per-user settings.

The Registry contains information that Windows continually references during operation, such as accessing to some application, profiles for each user, the applications installed on the computer and the types of documents that each can create, property sheet settings for folders and application icons, what hardware exists on the system, and the ports that are being used, etc etc...

How to edit System Registry?

Before making any changes in registry make sure that you have take the backup of current registry. So that you can getback your registry settings if you made some incorrect settings.

How to take backup of registry?

1) Start -> Run
2) Write "regedit" or "regedit4" in Run window & click Ok button.
3) Click on the tree structured folders ex:- "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE"
4) Click on "File" Menu from Registry Editor window.
5) Select "Export" and write the file name ex:- "key_local_BackUP.reg"
6) click on Save.

Now you can make changes to any of the registry keys, Paths etc etc...
But I personally request do not make any changes if you are not awaire of it.

How to Rollback the registry settings with backup file?

1) Just Double click on the saved .reg file ex: "key_local_BackUP.reg".
2) Click "Yes"
3) Click "Ok"

Now you are Done with reconfigured registry with previously saved settings.

Hope this research will help me fixing the Excel Plugin Activation In Windows XP + Office 2007.

ByeBye
:)

TRAI - SMS Sender ID Details

Daily we all receive SMS from various sources, some being known sources and many from unknown, advertising for their products, downloads or some offers blah blah blah.

Many times we receive sms which comes along with a message and a sender name/id read as TA-160by2, MD-BIGBLAST, AZ-LOANWALA, LM-SECRET etc. Ever thought what the two letters TA, MD, AZ, LM etc in sender id stands for????

So here goes the actual story behind it.

Every SMS has got a sender id with it which let us know from whom we have received the message. In personal sms forwarded from mobile, the mobile number goes as the sender-id. And if the senders mobile number is stored with us, it is displayed as the contact name. But there are cases where sms is used for commercial purpose where advertisers/senders would select a blind data and send them bulk sms promoting their service or product. In such cases advertiser wishes to have his own company name to be listed as sender in recipients mobile. For this he needs to buy sender id from service providers.

Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) who is the whole & sole controller of the Indian Telecom Industry has restricted this sender-id to be of 11 characters where 8 characters would be the advertiser/sender name and other 3 characters is used as identification tag describing the sender's service provider and sms generated area code. So the actual formula goes like
SENDER-ID = < sender-operator-code > < sender-area-code > - < sender-name >

Below is the table which has details about the operator codes and area codes.
